GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro police officer C.M. Roulhac was recognized this year as the best school resource officer in North Carolina.

Roulhac, who has served as the school resource officer at Ben L. Smith High School for nine years, received the CC McGee Officer of the Year Award from the N.C. Association of School Resource Officers earlier in July.

The award is presented to one officer chosen out of about 800 in the state for “outstanding contributions to his school and community,” Greensboro police spokeswoman Susan Danielsen said.

“My job is all about the kids,” Roulhac said. “I love being with the kids and teaching them how to do things. Years after they graduate, they’ll come back to visit and I can see how much they’ve grown — some of them are raising their own children. I’d like to think I helped teach them how to be good parents.”

Roulhac is also credited with solving a December 2011 arson at Smith High School.  Danielsen said he used surveillance video to identify the suspect — a former student — by his “distinct walk.”  The continuing investigation led to the eventual arrests of two other teens who were students at the high school at the time.
