Families return home after being evacuated due to flooding

GREENSBORO, N.C — Three families that live in a Greensboro apartment complex were forced to leave their homes Monday night when storm drains became blocked by debris, resulting in flooding.

Kathy Lindley took one look outside her apartment at Kersey Manor Tuesday morning and all she could do was shake her head. Flooding from the previous night’s storm left a trail of debris everywhere.

“I was scared! I was sure that the water was going to come inside within a matter of minutes,” Lindley said.

Four-feet of water covered the parking lot, Lindley said. The surge of water covered vehicles and some doors at the complex.

Lindley blames it on backed up storm drains, which neighbors tried to clear.

Hector Torres, 14, said toy guns, batteries, and even parts from a bicycle were pulled out of the drains.

“We got some sticks and poles and just started doing what we needed to do,” said Torres.

Lindley said her apartment was spared but some other apartments were damaged.
