Gov. Perdue Wants To Boost Incentives | Events
Gov. Beverly Perdue wants North Carolina lawmakers to up the ante when it comes to luring companies to here.
Perdue said she needs sweeter incentives at her disposal so she can compete financially with surrounding states.
Perdue plans to talk with General Assembly members early next year about boosting her ability to attract companies that will create jobs in the state.
But some critics say her plan maybe a little difficult in a Republican-controlled Legislature next year.
Some GOP lawmakers say better incentives come from lowering the corporate and individual income tax rates and reducing regulation.
The Governor has stated she is willing to examine expanding state-run gambling and privatizing the state liquor system.
These changes could bring extra revenues to the potential $3.7 billion budget gap next year.
