WSJS Carrying NASCAR Radio In Triad | Community Spirit
When the 53rd Annual Daytona 500 kicks off Sunday, February 20th, 600AM WSJS, often called The Triad’s NewsRadio, will become the home of "NASCAR Radio." The station will broadcast the entire season of Sprint Cup racing. Races formerly heard on WTQR-FM along with shows like NASCAR "LIVE" and "Monday Morning Race Refresher" will be featured on WSJS as well. WSJS has carried a few races through the Performance Racing Network since 2000, but this is the first time in station history that all NASCAR races will be aired on the 600AM channel.
Station General Manger Tom Hamilton says it’s a programming crown jewel he’s been after for years. “The Piedmont Triad has been known for decades as one of the highest rated markets for NASCAR radio listening,” he said. “NASCAR fans are known for three main things: listening to nearly the entire race, tuning to races every week and, perhaps most notably, their passionate support of NASCAR sponsors. Who wouldn’t want to be the exclusive home of NASCAR racing in a market like this?” Hamilton predicts the limited number of sponsorship availabilities will be sold out in early February.
