GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) - The Greensboro Historical Museum, Inc. has created an award program to recognize those who have enhanced the understanding of local history through the research, writing or collection of information about Greensboro and Guilford County history. The first annual Voices of a City Award, named for the museum’s permanent exhibit unveiled last year, will be presented at the Historical Museum Inc.’s annual dinner in October.

“The award will be presented to a professional or amateur historian who has not only collected or researched significant historical information, but also has made the information accessible to the public,” said Historical Museum Director Fred Goss. “This applies to all forms of historical material - narrative, literary, biographical, archeological, statistical, or any other type of notable contribution to the local historical record.” Goss said the subject of the historical information can be any area of interest relevant to Greensboro and Guilford County - political, military, business/commercial, social, agricultural, or other topical categories.   Nominations for the Voices of a City Award must be submitted to the museum by June 30. Submissions should include a two-page synopsis of the nominee’s work, along with a hard copy and CD of the work itself. Nominations will be judged on the originality and importance of the project’s subject. A panel of local historians and community members will review nominations and select the award winner.   Nominations should be submitted to:   Fred Goss, Director Greensboro Historical Museum 130 Summit Avenue Greensboro, NC  27401
